Who is eligible to apply for a DCYA Research Scholarship?
The DCYA Scholarship Programme is open to current/prospective graduates in full-time Masters/Phd Programmes only. Students must be registered at an Irish third level institution which is recognised within the meaning of Section One of the Higher Education Act 1971, and /or is in receipt of public funding and approved by the Minister for Education and Skills for the purpose of the Free Fees Initiative.
What is the duration of a DCYA scholarship?
The maximum duration of a DCYA Doctoral Scholarship is 3 years and of a Masters Scholarship is 2 years.

The DCYA Scholarship Programme is usually advertised at the beginning of each year. Exact details are posted on the DCYA website.
How much is DCYA Scholarship worth?
The Scholarship is valued at €16,000 per annum plus fees.
If my final results are not available before the deadline for applications, can I still apply for a Scholarship?
Yes, if you can provide proof of provisional acceptance onto a masters or PhD programme.
When will the scholarships be awarded?
Notification of the outcome of the evaluation of applications given before the end of June each year.
Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA) Research Placement Programme
When can I apply for an DCYA Research Placement?
Applications can be forwarded to the DCYA at any time, using the application form on the DCYA website. Vacancies are filled as they arise following an interview process.
What is the duration of an DCYA placement?
The maximum duration of an DCYA Research Placement is 11 months.
What are the qualifications needed for a research placement?
The DCYA Placement Programme is only open to graduates so a primary degree is essential.
How much will I be paid?
The payment for the placement is €1,333 per month for a full time placement and pro-rata for part time.
How many hours will I be required to work?
Hours of attendance will be fixed from time to time but will not generally be less then 41 hours per week for full-time placements. Part time placements may also take place on a pro-rata basis.
What work will I be doing on an DCYA placement?
A successful applicant will be required to work with and report to the research unit at the DCYA. The placement will be focused on supporting the Research Unit to ensure that research and information contributes to the new National Children’s Strategy and to achieving the objectives of the DCYA.
