07.12.10 Minister Andrews announces allocations of €1.5 million under Youth Café Funding Scheme

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Mr. Barry Andrews T.D., today (7 December 2010) announced details of the allocation of €1.5 million to 64 projects throughout the country to support the development of both existing and new youth cafés. 21.07.10 Minister Andrews officially opens childcare facilities in Gorey and Taghmon

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Barry Andrews, T.D. today (June 21) officially opened two childcare facilities in Wexford.  The combined spend on the two centres, Gorey Community and Youth Childcare Centre and Teach Spraoi Community Childcare in Taghmon, amounts to just over €2 million.

The winners of the "Draw me a right" poster competition in Ireland were announced at European Union House. Congratulations are due to Balbriggan's Educate Together primary school who won the junior category and Inver College secondary school, Carrickmacross, who won the senior category.

I welcome HIQA's publication today of A Consultation Document - Draft National Quality Standards for Residential and Foster Care Services for Children and Young People. As a society we have a duty to protect children.  That duty is even more pronounced in relation to children in residential and foster care services provided by the State.

3 February 2010 - Huge Take-up of Free Pre-School Year – Minister Andrews

Over 51,000 children have registered to take part in the Early Childhood Care and Education scheme from January 2010.  This is the first time that a free pre-school year has been made available on a universal basis to all children in the year prior to starting primary school.

26 January 2010 - Statement on Proposed Amendment to the Adoption Bill 2009

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Barry Andrews, T.D., today announced that he will bring forward at Committee stage an amendment to the Adoption Bill 2009 that will enable prospective adoptive parents to proceed with an adoption from a non-Hague or non-bilateral country, if prior to the establishment date, they have been issued with a Declaration of Eligibility and Suitability to adopt.

18 January 2010 - Young Dáil na nÓg councillors welcome decision on cervical cancer vaccine

The top recommendation voted by delegates at Dáil na nÓg in February 2009 was that the cervical cancer vaccine should be made available free of charge for all 12-18 year old girls. The Dáil na nÓg Council has been working on this issue for the last 10 months. Dáil na nÓg is the annual national parliament for young people aged 12-18 years.
