25.09.2014 Minister Reilly welcomes the announcement that France plans to follow Ireland and introduce Standardised Packaging for cigarettes

Thursday 25th September 2014Dr James Reilly, T.D., Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, today welcomed the announcement from the French Minister for Health that France plans to follow Ireland and introduce Standardised Packaging for cigarettes.Ireland became the second country in the world, and the first in Europe, to commit to introduce Standardised Packaging in May 2013. The Irish legislation is currently passing through the Oireachtas and will be re-introduced into the Dáil shortly. The UK has published draft regulations and France is now also committing to Standardised Packaging.
