Analysis of submissions made on national review of compliance with Children First:National Guidelines for the Protection and Welfare of Children

PDF
AuthorSinead Hanafin
AbstractAs part of a broader review of the Children First Child Protection Guidelines, interested parties were invited to make a submission on the implementation of the guidelines. Over 130 responses were received, from service providers, service users and others. The responses were analysed by the OMCYA on a structured basis, and the results have been published. The findings suggest that while the guidelines themselves present a good framework for the protection of children, there are a small number of areas that need to be reviewed. Key difficulties were identified arising from a lack of consistency, an absence of a comprehensive local, regional or national structure to plan, monitor and evaluate the child protection services and from a lack of availability of key services and supports.
