Launch of HIQA Child Protection Standards
|
In keeping with the Health Information and Quality Authority’s (HIQA) responsibility under the Health Act, 2007 and in compliance with the Ryan Report’s Implementation Plan, Child Protection and Welfare Standards were developed by HIQA and received Ministerial approval. The standards were developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders and the general public.
The new standards were launched by An Taoiseach at the Mansion House on Wednesday 25 July 2012 in the presence of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs. The standards will work in tandem with Children First National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children, 2011, and will focus on the Health Service Executive’s (HSE) child protection service. The external inspection of child protection services by HIQA will begin later this year.

The standards are one strand of the Government’s commitment to fundamental reform and transformation of the delivery of family support and child welfare services.
These standards aim to follow a child’s journey within the HSE child protection system to ensure that the child’s safety and welfare is protected.
